Today was a fantastic day. We had a sub, and an extra recess! It was a pretty funny day. Let me tell you about it.
In the beginning, we lined up in our line order and waited patiently for the bell to ring and for the teacher to come pick us up. The substitute came to get us and we did our morning circle. This time we discussed about our current events article. After we took turns talking, we excitedly grabbed our lunch(if you weren’t buying lunch), agenda, and homework. We lined up outside and trailed into the classroom as we introduced ourselves to the substitute. We settled down in our desks, and took out everything we needed for the day.
During math time, we got out our new textbooks and fresh spiral notebooks. We looked at the problems in our textbooks and answered them in our notebooks. As we worked on it, the substitute took attendance. The math took a lot of time, but most of us finished. If we were done, then we could silently read. Sadly, some of us did not get to finish.
We eagerly walked to music for the first time in the school year. Our music teachers told us that Mr. P is now working full-time at the Arcadia High School. Mr. P used to play the piano for our songs. Then the music teachers told us about Show Choir. A lot of the fifth grade wanted to join for this year. Lastly, they told us about the show coming up in fall. So we sang the song, “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. We also learned the dance moves. Each class went up on stage and tried their best to perform it. We were a bit nervous.
After music we immediately went to recess. Some of us went to get breakfast and some of us went to the field or the playground. We played a lot and after that we lined up and waited for the substitute. She picked us up and we went inside.
Later on, we lined up to get our chromebooks, and then we worked on voki.com. A lot of people love it because you can play around with the avatar and make it talk. We worked on our All About Me, which shows, well, all about you. We decorate the slides and customize our avatars and try to make it look like us.
After Voki, we continued writing our narrative pieces that we started yesterday. We played a game with tiles yesterday and wrote down words that our team made. We made sentences from the with them, choose one sentence, and bam, there’s the start of your narrative story. We worked on it quietly. It calmed us down.
After our narrative writing we had a funny conversation. The teacher always says “dahling”. At one point someone said,”Ok, DAHLING!” Everybody laughed. The substitute said,” OK, dahlings, time for reading!” So we read. Some of us did an AR test. When it was time to stop, we moved on to lunch.
We lined up with our lunches. Some of us made a quick stop at the music room to leave their instruments for Orchestra and Band. We all headed to the pavilion to eat our lunches with our friends. It was a grand time. Then we were dismissed to go to lunch recess.
We all walked to the playground area. Some of us went to the field, some to the playground, and some to the tetherball, punchball, or Four Square courts. We played until the bell rang. We all ambled to the line. We trekked back to the class.
As soon as we got into Room 33, Band was excused to go to the music room. We perched on our seats ready for the next instruction. We were supposed to wipe off our desks because of the words written on it with Expo marker. We were each delicately handed a paper towel and Clorox wipe.
After wiping our desks, we slid out our chromebooks and went into our Google Drive. We clicked on Shared With Me and went on the #BestWeekEver presentation Mrs. Citizen had prepared for us. This time we had to make a Google Drawing of why this week was great, the tweet that went with it, and our Twitter handle. The tweet had to 140 characters or less. After we finished we shut down our chromebooks and put them back into the chromebook cart.
We cleaned up and got ready for free play. The people who had Orchestra took their backpacks and left. The rest had free play! We played and talked with our friends. After free play we got our backpacks and left. The Orchestra people stayed until 3:00.
Today was really fascinating. And not just because it was a Friday. It was also because we had fun with our substitute and it was exciting to have a extra recess. (Although the Orchestra did not get to do free play.) We all hope Monday leads into another brand new exciting week!
