I noticed in the photo that there are lots of audience watching, there is a flag on top of the scoreboard, you can see the opponent on the other side, and both tennis players are wearing white clothes (unless that's because the image is black and white). I learned that Althea Gibson was invited to participate in a New Jersey event because Alice Marble, a four time winner at Forest Hills wrote a letter on behalf of Althea. Also, Althea was the first black player to compete on a women's golf tour. My two questions are: If she had any siblings and if yes, how many? Did her parents support her doing tennis?

In the picture I noticed there were a lot of people in the stands, the main woman was in the center, it looked like a real tennis place, and Althea looks like a real tennis player. I learned that she was the first african-american on the U.S. tennis tour and she won a tournament in france. Question #1: How old was Althea Gibson when she won the france competition? #2: How did Althea Gibson start to play tennis?

She is playing in a stadium with lots of people, this was taken a long time ago, it looks like ones black and ones white, it looks like a us tournament stadium. The first black tennis player was female. She brushed the fame of Jackie robinson. Why was the tennis league discriminative to blacks? where did Althea Gibson come from, what was her passion for tennis from?

I noticed that it looked like there was only white people in the crowd. Also there is a person sitting in a chair and he or she might be the referee.Lastly there is a flag with three stripes on it.I did not learn about Althea Gibson and her story until now. Also I did not know that even in tennis there was still some segregation.I want to know how many tournaments she played all throughout her life. Also when was she born?

In the image above, I noticed that there is a big crowd that is not entirely filled, a person sitting in a chair which I assume is a referee, there is no color in the picture (it is black and white) and that there is a flag on the top of the score board. I also learned that she was the first african-american woman to play tennis because I have never heard of her and I learned she suffered from an illness that caused her to pass in 2003. Last of all, I am wondering what bigotry means and where the International Tennis Hall of Fame is.

I notice that the stadium looks really old, that the net's not as high as it is now, the picture is black and white, and the picture was taken behind Althea Gibson. I learned that there was a special league for black players, and Althea Gibson was the first black woman in the USLTA. What disease did Althea Gibson die from, and why did she start playing tennis anyways?

1: The tennis net is low, picture was taken in the 1900's, less people on the left than the right( the bleachers that is close to the court), the person on the north side of the court (opponent) is right in the middle of a hit (suggest you zoom in closely to see/ctrl and +)

I I leaned that Althea Gibson was the first african american to win a world series in tennis. Why in the old days they use weird rackets? Why why was everything black and white in the old days

I notice that in the picture she is competing at a tennis court and the picture is black and white. there is a lot of people. I learned that althea gibson was the first african american tennis player and was the first women to break the color barrier in the U.S. Another thing I learned is that althea gibson died on 2003 at the age 76. What kind of illness did althea gibson get? does she have any kids.

Althea is in a big tournament. The picture is black and white. The camera is focused on Althea Gibson. Althea Gibson is on tour. Althea Gibson was the first African American on a U.S Tour. She was the first African American to win titles. What illness did she die from? How many titles did she win in all?

I notice that a lot of people are watching them play tennis. I notice that the picture is colored black and white. I notice that the court that they are playing in is very big. I notice that the tennis players are a expert because usually when they play in big courts usually they are competing. My first learning is Gibson started tennis when she was 14 year old and the very next year she won the tournament. I didn't know you could start practicing for a tournament when you are a teenager. It was surprising that she lost a tournament. My question is how long did she practiced tennis for? My second question is did you teach anyone how to play tennis?

I notice that the picture is black and white so it's probably from a long time ago. There is a tennis tournament happening. On the left hand side there are a lot of people. 2 people are competing. Althea Gibson Is the first african american to be on a U.S. tennis Tour. She won her first championship in Paris, France. Why did she retire from such amazing Tennis. Plus if she had kids did they follow her footsteps of tennis.

I noticed that the photo was still black and white, I also noticed that that there was quite a lot of people. And I noticed that there was somebody on the side watching the game. Lastly, I noticed that there was a flag that was not the American flag. I learned that Althea Gibson was the first African American tennis player. Also I learned that somebody had to criticize the USLTA members for them to let her play. My question is why did Alice marble want to help Althea Gibson? I also don't understand why USLTA didn't want Althea Gibson to compete, was it because they saw her as a challenge?

I notice in the picture that their are some seats that are empty, they are playing tennis, there is a big flag in the picture, and there is a scoreboard in the picture. I learned that Althea Gibson was the first african american to complete in a U.S national tennis competition. When Althea Gibson was young she was a natural athlete. Did Althea Gibson have any siblings? Did she do anything else besides play tennis?

2. I learned that Althea Gibson was the first African-American on U.S. tennis. Also another thing I learned was that Althea Gibson didn't win the tournament. 3. I want to know why Althea Gibson wanted to do tennis what encouraged her. My last question is does she have any brothers or sisters that play tennis too?
