As the bell rang, students question others where their lines were. Everyone was so excited to see their friends and classmates, yet others were looking at Mrs. Citizen. Mrs. Citizen walked us to our new classroom. Found their destination, some were still lost. After a few minutes everyone found their lines. While others escorted them. Children were anxious to see their new teachers arrive to their lines.
As we were waiting to see the wonders in the classroom, Mrs. Citizen told us no touching the objects, no talking, and no sitting down. When we walked inside, we saw a lot of pillows and a couch. Also we saw a 3D printer, green screen, ocean themed library and many other things. Mrs. Citizen had to remind a few kids for not sitting down, talking to each other, and touching things.
On our first day after our observation of the class, we went outside for circle time. During our circle we were paired with the people next to us and talked about our summer vacation. My partner and I both said that our favorite part of our summer was going to Yosemite and Boomers! My partner and I said different things, she said her favorite part was going to Hawaii, and I said my favorite part was going to Taiwan.
Have you ever heard about flexible seating? Sometimes it can be super hard to choose your seats. When we walked in we saw many different types of seats. We saw chairs, pillows, crates, and some stools. Mrs. Citizen explained the rules about flexible seating. Everyone choose their seats immediately and chose their seat partners.
Today we did a very exciting exercise called gonoodle, that the whole class enjoyed. The first video that we did was “MilkShake”. MilkShake is a body awareness, gross motor skills, and a call and repeat video. The next video is “Double your Money”. Double your Money is a body awareness and gross motor skills.
First Mrs. Citizen told us about the 6 questions then she gave us a piece of paper. Mrs. Citizen told us to finish the paper, then she would give us sticky notes. After she gave us the sticky notes, she told us to write the question number and write the answer. We kept doing it until we got up to question 6. Mrs. Citizen told us to put the sticky notes on the paper around the class. At the end we looked at all of them.
We did a “Math in Me” project and to start with that Mrs. Citizen told us to fold it into thirds and then fold the paper into thirds again. We drew ourselves in the middle. We did numbers that we have that is what we have. For example, I did cousins and their examples is somebody did her friends. Some people did their pets.
Right then, the bell rang and we walked to recess. Also, some people played four square. Some people were cheating. Others played basketball. Teams were unfair. People were chatting with each other. Everyone in the school was happy to play at recess.
When we returned from recess, we continued to work on our “Math in Me” activity. We placed sticky notes on top of our numbers. We wrote number sentences on the the sticky notes, so they equal the number under the sticky notes. We had to do that so another person would solve the number sentence. This was a very fun activity to do and soon enough we will play the game and have fun!
When Mrs. Citizen announced we were doing technology with chromebooks, nobody expected the chromebooks to be different. The new ones were smooth, lighter, touchscreen, and were able to become tablets! Everyone couldn’t wait. After we got them from the cart, we had to set up our technology folders. She passed the folder to us and from then until the end of school, they were our folders. To know which chromebook was which, we put stickers with numbers on them. It was supposed to be a quiet moment but turned to very chaotic one. Eventually, we settled down and had to move on the next activity.
After we learned about our chromebooks, we were given an assignment to take a selfie for a “Twitter” account. First, we had to open a Google document and using the chromebooks camera so we can take a selfie and wrote our handle to use as a username. While we were taking the photos and adding a handle, Mrs. Citizen shared a folder with us labeled “selfies”. We had to add our document to the folder.. Once the pictures were attached to the file, we had to create a unique handle.
The reason we have a desk space is because we have flexible seating so we have no place to put our stuff. We partnered with the opposite gender and Mrs. Citizen assigned each group to a desk. One of the partners got one side of the desk and the other partner got the other side. This is how we keep ourselves and our belongings organized.
Soon after, we headed out to eat lunch at the tables. While we were there we ate tasty lunch, talked to friends and got ready for recess. As we finished, we slowly got excused to go to lunch recess. Many people did things like talk to friends, played sports and much more. At the end we all lined up to go back to class. Overall, lunch was a blast!
When we lined up for lunch, our teacher has us line up in a specific order. She us alternate in a pattern of boy and girl. The reason why she did that was because we were talking quite a lot in the line. So we practiced walking straight in a line but we did not, so we had to go back and try it again. That time we got it right and we were happy to get into the classroom to cool down.
When lunch time was over we all got in line and went in, Mrs. Citizen announced we would be doing silent reading for ten minutes. After she turned off the lights everybody got books from either their backpacks or our class library. When the class had their books Mrs. Citizen told us we could sit anywhere and demonstrated how we could flip on chairs over to create or make backrests. The class settled down in their desired spots, Cayley layed down on the carpet, Desmond sat on the couch, and Cat sat in the reading corner. When the bright lights turned on, we all blinked. Wrapping up reading time everybody put their books back in their rightful places and got back to their seats.
Later that day, we started our poetry books. In the book, we wrote a table of contents, made circle maps focusing on verbs, nouns, and adjectives. We worked in groups to complete the project. Furthermore, we went on a website called Flipgrid. Our class made videos about how the projects more efficiently. Luckily, we finished our assignments on time.
our first day went. Our first reason is that some classmates didn't’ know how to use Flipgrid. The videos were to tell Mrs. Citizen how our day went. It was educative and awesome! Some classmates used props and drew on their videos. This project was fun and exciting!
When we were getting ready to leave, she has us clean up the classroom. Once we finished cleaning up she had us line up outside, so that we were ready to leave. Once the bell rang, Mrs.Citizens walked us out to the front gate so that our parents could pick us up. Once we got through the gate she walked us the fifth grade section, and some of us watched for our cars while others walked home, went on a bus, or walked to our car.
